Fixing a drive recognized as unformatted in windows using DOS command

It creates a panic if not a headache when you plug a storage device on your system and receiving an error massage that you cant access the device until you format it, the thought that all of your important documents have to get lost for you to use that device again is always frustrating.

Fair enough there is a way to make a use of your device again without formatting it, now you might plug your device to a computer and when you want to access it a window below pops up
Just relax, take it easy and cancel the window "Do not attempt to format that drive"
A method used to solve the issue is chkdsk utility under command prompt, it restores your device to the earlier state

  • Plug in your device and take a note on its letter
  • Run command prompt as an administrator
  • On the command prompt type the following
chkdsk "drive letter": /f               then enter

  • Wait for windows to detect the errors on the device and correct them
  • Close cmd and access your drive
These errors may be caused mainly by

  • Unsafe removal of the drive from your system
  • Suddenly power cut when the device is still in use
