Password protect any mass storage device without using any software

Many people don't like it when their documents stored in a storage device are accessed by any person, fortunately I'm one of them. To avoid such annoyance variety of software have been developed to secure your documents from being seen by everyone by a password, all of this software are costy for life time use.

Windows has a built in program that allows you to password protect your storage device through some few clicks which I am going to walk you through in this tutorial

note:this applies for windows 7/8 only, windows XP does not have such ability

Do this to password protect your device
  • Plug the device to your computer and note its letter
  • Click start and in the run box type BitLocker drive encryption then enter
  • When a window pops on your screen look for your device then click turn on bitlocker

  • Tick the check box stating use a password to unlock the drive on the appearing window
  • Enter your desired password then click next

  • for safe saving of your password click save (to a location in your computer)

  • Click start encrypting and wait for the computer to encrypt your device
Warning: Don't remove the device while encrypting or the data on the device will be damaged
:For large storage devices it may take a lot of time to encrypt the device so be patient

To remove the password protect on the device do the following
  •  Plugging the device and browse to bitlocker
  • Find your device and click turn off bitlocker
That's all.......!
