How to retrieve data from a corrupted storage device using command prompt



Sometimes you might plug a storage device to your computer then the computer indicates that a certain amount of storage has been used but when you open that drive a massage "this folder is empty" appears.such problem can be resolved by using command prompt
Note: this command does not retrieve deleted data or data from a formatted device,if you want to obtain such data you will have to use some data recovery utility software


In our case scenario proceed as follows
1.Plug your device to your computer then go to my computer double click to see all the drives present in your system, mark the later assigned to the device you want to retrieve data from since you will use it later in the command prompt for my case its later G.

2.Open the command prompt interface and run as an administrator
If you have no idea on how to access command prompt or to run as an administrator don't worry it is simple just go to the start button click it a window will appear,on the run box type "cmd" command prompt will appear right click it and select run as administrator then a window similar to the one below will appear.


3.On the command prompt interface navigate to the drive you wish to retrieve data from
You can do this by writing the letter assigned to your drive in capital letters followed by full colon in the command prompt then press enter the window bellow will appear on your screen.


4.Then finalize your task by typing the following code on the command prompt "-s -a -h /s /d *.*" then press enter and wait for the response of the command prompt and your data will already be retrieved
